Your crown will make chewing infinitely easier, as your tooth will no longer be worn, sensitive and compromised. Enjoy the enduring benefit of being able to chew foods of all different textures.
At Creffield Lodge Dental Practice, we take great care and pride in restoring teeth with hand-made crowns. Often described as ‘caps for your teeth’, crowns are made from tooth-like materials, including precious metals and Zirconia.
A crown is a toothlike cap that fits over the top of a diseased or decayed tooth once the tooth has been cleaned and shaped accordingly. Whilst crowns can be a standalone restorative treatment, they also form part of a dental bridge.
Improved Biting and Chewing
Crowns restore your chewing capability, allowing you to enjoy fuss-free mealtimes.
Beautifully Made
We work with talented dental technicians who employ a deep level of care and attention when making your crown.
Protect a Weakened Tooth
Opting to have a crown placed is an excellent investment for your oral health. Your weakened tooth will have a protective, durable and tooth-like shell covering it.
Prevent Further Tooth Wear
Once a tooth sustains a certain degree of wear, it becomes prone to significantly more from then on. A crown can prevent the level of wear that results in a tooth needing to be taken out.
Consultation
If you are new to the practice, a full dental examination will need to be completed, including a set of X-rays.
Your dentist will closely examine the damage your tooth has sustained and identify whether this is down to decay, infection, disease, or physical trauma such as a blow to the mouth.
We will invite you to attend a second appointment if you wish to go ahead and have a crown placed in the interests of your oral health.
Treatment visit No. 1
Your dentist will prepare your tooth, numbing it with local anaesthetic. If you’re nervous about the procedure, we have the option of IV sedation to make you more relaxed throughout.
The decay at the site of the tooth is removed, and the tooth is shaped to receive the crown at a future appointment. A post-procedure digital scan is taken to provide the basis for your new crown, and we will fit you with a temporary crown to wear.
Treatment visit No. 2
When your new crown is ready, our friendly reception team will let you know and book you for a fitting appointment. During this appointment, the temporary crown is removed. In some cases, this doesn’t require anaesthetic. Your new crown is placed over the top, and your dentist carefully checks it for fit and bite. A special adhesive cements the tooth in place.
A dental crown is recommended when a tooth has been weakened or damaged to the point where it can no longer be restored with a simple filling.
